BA-64 Soviet Armor Car

p1030667

This is Tamiya's BA-64 Soviet Armored Car in a vingette, as I try my hand at more involved ground work and figure painting.  Here we have a solider who just made some editorial comment to a German War Poster ("Victory") with red paint, and giving directions to the next destination.

As with any diorama, layout is one of key planning process steps.  Here you see the testing the layout with the unfinsihed model and figures.

The road sign is from the Tamiya Road sign set and works well with the small BA-64 kit.  The figure pointing is from Tamiya's WW2 Russian infantry and Tank Crew set, with some minor swapping of arms and surgery to get the pose I wanted.

Ground work was built with mostly Celluclay, additional mud effects on the ground and on the car is from Vallejo Brown thick mud, and Black thick Mud.  Vallejo Weathering Effects - Mud and Grass Effect was used to add texture to the bottom of the car, as this product provides both color, muck,  and loose 'plant' material in one.  Water puddles is Vallejo still water and Pledge acrylic floor polish for other shiny effects.  The light snow is just white weathering powder and the grass is generic railroad modeling grass. Finally some leaves from Plus Models were added with white glue.

The car is painted with Tamiya acrylic and the figures were painted with Vallejo model colors.  The paint can is just a piece of thin metal from a old voltive candle rolled around a dowel and glued with CA. Aluminum wire was added as a handle and stretched sprue acts as the paint handle.
